Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois
I have two roommates, a couple, who are breaking up and in dispute over who gets what. There is some concern, since there are not receipts for all the items in the house, that the female may try to keep it for herself even if it was originally purchased and brought over by the male party. The female was about to move out today and had about 10 boxes packed, suddenly she unpacked and cleaned, apparently deciding to stay. We all want to leave, but are unsure how to go about this legally and civilly. There are 4 people total. The three of us want to leave and get a new place without the female party in the dispute, but we want to make sure we get all of our belongings without a struggle or law enforcement involvement. Any suggestions or advice? Are there mediators for this type of separation?

I dont know about mediators, but I do know that in the future you should have a written cohabitation agreement. See www.todayslawalert.com I suggest that at a minimum you
make a list of all things that are agreed upon so that you at least limit what is in dispute.
Doing a list should get everyone talking and perhaps you can work it all out.
