Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Do I have a slander case?

Ill try not to be to confusing. I am a firefighter. I started in June of 2003 the way the sick leave policy is written is you get a total of 6 sick days by the end of one year of employment. In my 8th month of employment I was injured on the job. The last 3 days of sick leave are not earned until the 365th day. Because of my missed time from work, my probationary time was extended. When I had returned to work in July of 2004 I needed to take a sick day, and called in like I was sapposed to. The next shift I was brought into the fire chiefs office and asked to resign, when asked why I was told it was because I used a sick day that I didnt have. I have no other reported disciplinary reports. It turns out that the policy was either changed when I was out on injury, or the fire chief made the whole thing up, but he went to the board and showed them a policy that states that I wouldnt get additional sick days until after probation (which was extended because of an on the job injury) I still have my origanal copy of my policy (not contract) this is not a union department. In my copy of the policy it said nothing about coming off of probation to earn more days. I was given no chance to defend myself, and was fired. Do I have a case?

I think it would be best to speak with an attorney who handles employment issues.
