Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois
Slander and Harassment
I have been friends with a celeb and members of his crew for several months. 2 girls that live in FL are jealous of this and have told many extreme lies about me to his parents, who work on the tour in management positions, causing them to order all members of the tour to have no contact with me whatsoever, or they are threatened with being fired. This has caused me a lot of personal grief and the loss of many valued friendships. Also, I recently attended a performance his in Illinois and 2 guards were stationed directly in front of me and ordered to ''watch me'' throughout the entire show. I feel that this was unnecessary and completely uncalled for, as I did nothing any different from any other person there to see that show. They checked my and my friend's tickets, and no one elses', and at the end of the performance, I was escorted off the property within minutes by 3 security guards and told that I would be arrested if I went anywhere near any of the tourbuses. I asked numerous times what I had done wrong and all I was told is they were following orders. I feel that I was harassed by the venue's security and I would also like to know what can be done about the slander.

I think what Mr. Gonzalez is trying to say is that even if you could prove that what these girls said about you was intentionally untrue, what would your damages be? In other words, you may have a claim of slander against these girls -- if, in fact, you could prove that they said knowing untruths about you -- but beside the loss of friendship with a celebrity and certain relatively small emotional turmoil, how have you suffered damages sufficient to warrant the expense of litigation?
Because of this fact, it is hightly doubtful whether any attorney would accept your case on a contingent fee basis and, for the same reason, highly unlikely that you would hire a lawyer on an hourly basis.
