Slander or such

If a person posts a public ''blog'' on their myspace website trashing another person very harshly, names them by name and literaly publicaly makes numberous accusations of some pretty serious claims, such as women beating, can they be held liable?

Yes. That is called "libel." Order that person to remove those comments. If they don't, find an attorney and sue.
