Legal Question in Health Care Law in Illinois

Possible HIPPA violation

I work for the local ambulance service.

I called an ambulance for myself and

signed a refusal of services. The

paramedic who took the refusal called

my boss and gave him the particulars

about the call. My boss says it is not a

HIPPA violation because he is the

HIPPA officer and the medic can call

him and tell him this kind of thing

anytime he wants.

Re: Possible HIPPA violation

You are probably right.

I cannot see any compelling reason why the paramedic should have called your boss.

Paramedics do not, to the best of my knowledge, call a patient's boss, family or friends without being asked to do so by the patient.
