Legal Question in Immigration Law in Illinois

A child's options for legalization

I would like to know what the options are for a child to obtain naturalization. Facts: child is seventeen, born in Mexico, living with parents (illegal aliens), has U.S. citizens who are willing to adopt him and sister (age 12) in case parents are deported.

Re: A child's options for legalization

Adoption of a child over the age of 16 years of age will not confer any immigration benefits, particularly since the child is not abandoned and both parents are alive and caring for the child. I would suggest that you contact the American Immigration Lawyer's Association in Washington, D.C. and obtain names of AILA members in your area. AILA is the leading organization in the U.S. for U.S. Immigration Lawyers and whatever advice you receive will be good advice if you find an AILA member in your area.

Good luck and best wishes.
