if i get stopped by a chicago ploice officer, can he ask if i am illegal in this country

The police do not normally do this. If you are arrested they will probably check your status and you could very easily end up deported if you're here illegally.

A police officer can ask anything he wants; whether you must answer is the question. If a Chicago police officer asks you whether you are illegal in this country, just stare at him as if you don't understand. If you are illegal, it depends on whether you can obtain benefits or not. What are you doing to try to get legalized if you are not? Then you won't have to worry about what the police ask you! Good luck!
