Legal Question in Immigration Law in Illinois

Marriage interview-decision pending

Hello, I attended the interview for adjustment of status through marriage with my wife who is a US citizen about 3 months ago. The interview went well and at the end I had to sign an application for the alien registration receipt card(green card),but the officer told us that she couldn't make a decision because they didn't have yet the results for my background check. I was told to go home and wait for the decision to arrive in the mail. Since then I didn't receive any answer and I wonder if the background check was the reason we were sent home or the officer had hidden to tell us the truth that we didn't have enough proof for the marriage. Thank you in advance,George

Dear George:

Before hiring an attorney, I would advise you to contact your local Congressman to make an inquiry on your behalf. If you cannot get results this way, feel free to call me.

Re: Marriage interview-decision pending

I believe background check or administrative processing takes a very long time and one has to be patient and wait for 6 to 10 months for response. You will get early response if you are lucky. The fact that you are not rejected but asked to wait is a positive sign.
