Legal Question in Insurance Law in Illinois

flight insurance

My friend and I were to take an international trip in 2007. We are both elderly. I cannot travel without companionship due to my impaired vision. My friend was to accompany me on the trip and requested 2 wheelchairs. When we checked in, we had to stand in line for over 1 1/2 hours waiting on the only ticket agent to service us. She was in a deep argument with another passenger (where foul language was being used by the passenger) and we were left to stand the whole time. My friend asked for a wheelchair because she could not just stand like that. She was told that they do not give wheelchairs until you have passed through the security line. Consequently, my friend ended up in so much pain that she was admitted into the hospital for a number of days due to her back giving out on her. A claim was filed the very next day with the insurance company that we bought the policy from. My doctor as well as my friends doctor stated that it was necessary for us to miss that flight for medical reasons that occurred while standing in line. We received notification that our claim was denied. What recourse might we have against this company? Medical emergencies was covered under our policy. We are still waiting on the reason why it was denied.
