Legal Question in Insurance Law in Illinois
I have a group of friends and we are talking about forming a riding club. I am talking about a horse back riding club. If we go trail riding as a group in a state park or public place, do we need to purchase any type of liability insurance for the club? I would think that each member should be expected to have their own personal liability insurance for any damages/injuries caused by their horse. But if someone on the ride got injured, can they sue the club? The club is not associated with any national governing association.

A lot of this may have to do with the way the club is set up, and what it expects of its members. That includes rules requiring insurance, naming the club and its members as additional insureds for various purposes, and other protective language. So it can be done but it's a good point and so the club, if it is to be anything more than just friends getting together now and then and to be more organized, should have some governing documents so that everyone is on the same page and there's consistency......
