Legal Question in Insurance Law in Illinois
We recently boarded our 4 yr old silver double dapple dachshund at a local kennel in Illinois. The owners did not secure her, she ran out the door and was killed by some big dogs. Their insurance company contacted us with an offer for just the price of our dog (less than we can probably replace her for), and no other costs we incurred during her lifetime. What can/should we do to obtain a more reasonable settlement?

I am sorry for your loss.
I lived with a dachsund for 5 years in college and know that they are a good natured animal.
In a situation like this I usually write clients a "demand letter" to the Insurance co. of the kennel.
I charge a small upfront fee for the letter and responding to the letter. I recommend a letter to try to settle the matter out of the courts first.
