Legal Question in Insurance Law in Illinois
tort: defendant
over 2 years ago, then i was working for a small trucking company as a driver, i got into accident with another car. i didn't think the accident happened because of my fault (i've got a ticket though), wanted to go to court , but didn't go because of the family emergency, so i paid the fine. i gave all the papers concerning the accident to my boss, being sure that truck i've operated was covered by insurance (that's what my boss told me - truck is covered) and insurance company is going to take care of everything. in a month after all this happened i quit working for that company. 2 years have passed. during this time i've never heard anything from anybody about this accident. in the middle of august this year i've got tort papers - plaintiff(his insurance company) is suing me for damages, because they never got the money from insurance of the company i've worked for . the court date is 1st of october, so i don't have any time to find out, what's going on.what should i do?

Re: tort: defendant
First, be sure to go to court this time or else it is likely that a default judgment will be entered against you. You should have attended court or obtained a continuance on the ticket case and avoided the conviction, but it is too late to do anything about that now. If you appear in court on October 1rst, the court will allow you a cntinuance to hire an attorney. I would strongly suggest that you do so.
