Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Illinois

help with major corporation

Hello, my name is--name removed-- I am looking for help from a lawyer. I have an idea I would like to present to a major cooporation, but I do not want them to take my idea and use it without getting any compensation for it. I am not sure how to go about protecting my idea. Any advice would help on what I should do. Thanks!

I am an Illinois patent lawyer and Treasurer of the Illinois Innovators & Inventors Club. If you are located close to Edwardsville (which is 20 miles NNE of St. Louis) go to http://ilinventor.com to find meeting dates and attend a meeting. If not, try my webpage, www.burdlaw.com and click on the Inventor Information hyperlink. That will get you to lots of information that will be of help. Another useful site is www.patentcafe.com which will provide a wealth of information. Also, Patent Office website, www.uspto.gov has useful information. You would be well advised to spend the money to consult with a registered patent attorney who has some corporate experience to know how submissions work. I can certainly assist you for a fee, and there are many other capable patent attorneys depending on your location. If you need more specific advice, I would need more specific factual information from you.
