Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Illinois

I want to use pictures from books as art projects, a collage if you will. is this a copyright infringement.

Maybe yes, maybe no. Probably yes if you are going to sell the collage and probably no if you are not. At any rate, unless you are selling a bunch of these, no one is likely to object as it will not be causing them enough damage to be worth a lawsuit or even hiring a lawyer.
