Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Illinois
I'm writing a book and I wanted to know is it ok to have a name of a real song in a novel without getting in trouble. I seen in books before a name of a song was mention and even copyrighted name brands such as candy, cereal, shoes been said. Is it Legal to have that kind of material in a novel?

Yes, it is legal if done properly so as not to imply any association with the owner of trademark or copyright rights to the song. See a copyright lawyer (intellectual property lawyer) for more specific advice as the precise manner of use and how famous the song will likely dictate the ultimate answer to your question. A good IP lawyer can tell you how in just a few minutes how to do this legally. Call if you need more specifics.
