Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Illinois

emergency healthcare if my child is at a community even with another mother

In our community, our 12 yr old daughters graduated from Girl Scouts and organized their own community service group. If my daughter is at a community event with her group (example- face painting at a hospital picnic) supervised by one of the other girl's mothers, and requires emergency care, what do I need to do to allow that mother to make medical decisions for my daughter until I am available. (The head mom of this group is claiming that all the parents need to be present at every event because of the medical emergency issues...that we do not have the same ''coverage for medical emergencies that we did when our daughters were Girl Scouts last year''. How does this differ from having my daughter go to a movie with her friend's family? Who is responsible for emergency care decisions on my behalf then? This community group is NOT an organization, just a group of girls donating their time toward various community service projects. Thank You.

Re: emergency healthcare if my child is at a community even with another mother

Hello. I'm an old Eagle Scout so I am familiar with what leaders sometimes do to encourage parent participation. In my opinion this is the case in your situation. I do not believe, personally, that there is such a problem with medical insurance coverage here. I believe this is the group leader's method of attempting to get 100% parent attendance for events. Will be happy to discuss this further and in more detail. By the way, there would be no problem with you simply being notified of an emergency situation involving your child. Of course, there is no substitute for you being on hand, however again I believe that is the leaders motive here.
