Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Illinois

Juvenile Rights

My son is 17 & will be 18 on 2/23 and wants to move out of the home. What can he remove from my home and how does that affect him getting into a college that he's been accepted to, can he say we kicked him out and then have gramma or auntie sign docs for him even if we didn't kick him out. Situation based on defiant over rules and controlling girlfriend & her parents telling him to do these things.

Re: Juvenile Rights

Hello and Happy New Year. Technically

your son is still a minor. He legally

has no right to remove anything from

your home, without your approval. Of

course, he is embarking on a trip that

will be very difficult if he is relying upon his relationship with his

girlfriend to rebel. At anytime they

could break up and he would be out in

the cold. Certainly it is in his best

interest if he can receive emotional

as well as financial assistance in

the college ranks and in applying to

college and all that goes with it. His girlfriend's parents may turn out to be his worse enemy. The fact that they are telling him to disrespect you

is not a good sign. If the girlfriend's parents have a change of

heart toward your son, then what? I

am merely bringing out some issues here and am suggesting that you do all

that you can to keep your son at home, at least until the start of college. I will be happy to discuss this with you further and in more detail.
