Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Discrimination

Is there a legal term when a group of co-workers or peers as one would say. Consort together to make a person look bad or try to make it appear as they are not a good employee. What is the legal term for that and if you have proof of that what recourse does one have? Thanks Dean

Re: Discrimination

Your question is vague and, therefore, difficult to answer. It depends upon what these other employees are doing that would dictate whether they have legal liability. If they are all saying lies about you, then you would have a claim for defamation, for example.

You need to be a bit more explicit in exactly the type of behavior that is making you "look bad" to your employer.

Imagine, if you will, the following extreme example. An employee is stealing from his employer. A group of other employees tells the employer about this theft. Even though the group of other employees made the first employee "look bad" to his employer, the group would incur no legal liability for truthfully reporting the theft.
