If you are saying this was a State job and you are covered by State employment rules, there are grievance and appeal processes in most cases and you should be talking to your union rep if you are covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Otherwise, there isn't enough information to be able to help but one thing about Illinois is that it is an "at will" employment State, meaning you can be fired for any or NO reason unless there are rules (like union rules) that protect you in some way, or unless the firing is based on some unlawful reason (discrimination). If you are unsure of your rights you need to talk to any attorney, and a wrongful termination suit MAY be one option if the facts support it.
