Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

My former employer who sells remanufactured ink and toner supplies has been selling original brand name products he purchased in his off brand boxes to imply better quality. When I complained to our corporate office,I received a threatening email from my former boss implying I should be quiet or future potential employers would hear I had a history of causing problems when both my buisness customers and former co workers know this is not the case. Can I make these statements or is it something that will cause me legal issues??

It may very well cause you problems down the line. My suggestion is that you look for a new job and leave your former employer alone. Your statements are not protected under the First Amendment and could very well be considered libelous. If they sue you, you will have to spend large amounts of money that you can ill-afford to defend yourself.
