Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Employment Law

I was employed in the Chicago office for a Mississippi Corporate office. they told me back in June that they would be closing that office and would move everything to Mississippi - so far i was only one of the five let go and they signed a new lease for a smaller office for the other four. When i questioned them on that - they said they were only taking the accounting function , which I was the controller but still they kept my two clerks to run payroll and bills out of the Chicago office - they also said that they wanted the accounting system to be only entered from Corporate but i know two other divisions - Indian and Florida that still access the system - Finally - I was able to determine that they hired a few people in Mississippi to replace me - I am 48 white male - please let me know if there are any remedies

THANKS

Re: Employment Law

The questions is: why do you believe they fired you? If you think it is based on discrimination then you may have a claim. If you think they are lying to cover up for some personal complaints against you (personality conflicts), there is probably no claim.

Illinois is tricky because it is an "at will" employment state. You can fire people or quit for all sorts of reasons and there is no law preventing you as long as you do not discriminate.
