Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

entitled to overtime?

My husband is a house manager for a group home for the disabled. He is salaried under the premise that he works 40 hours a week. Since he has been there he's been putting in 60 or more hour work weeks. His employer says this is ''expected'' and complains if he doesn't work the excessive hours. On top of that he is ''on-call'' 24/7. Several times he has worked 17+ hour days, including once where he worked 21 of 27 hours because his employer would not cut his hours. He gets no overtime for any of this. Is there anything we can do?

Re: entitled to overtime?

Depending upon what your husband's job duties are (if he truly does not have managerial or supervisory responsibilities), he may very well be entitled to overtime. Kindly send your contact info to my e-mail address upon receipt of this response so that we can discuss in greater detail. We are involved in a number of cases just like this.
