Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
I was hired as an office manager 6 months ago and was suppose to be given a store, however they had not decided on what store even though they said it would be one of the three new offices. Now a store is available, it should have been automatically given to me now they want me to interview with another store manager (same level as me) for an assistant position as well interview with the regional manager/owner for the office manager position the same position i was hired for originally is that legal in chicago il

Legal? Unless the promise is in writing as part of a probationary or employee promotion program, it would be your word against theirs, which is tough to prove as I'm sure you could imagine. Making waves could backfire, too, including your being summarily dismissed. Maybe you should ask to see someone higher up in the organization to clarify what the deal is, to help you define what's going on and hopefully show you are the kind of person who looks for answers and doesn't want misunderstandings. It may also tell you how they handle things and what the future may hold for you with this kind of organization. Then again, gven the economy maybe there's something else going on that they don't want to let you know of; but either way communications should be clear so you (and they) know where you each stand. This make take some diplomacy; good luck.
