Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

I worked for Blockbuster for close to five years as a manager. As a manager, we were not allowed to leave the store, a manager must always be present. This means that any breaks that are taken must be taken in the store, but since Blockbuster only has two person coverage, and on some days, only one, even if a manager sat down to take a break, something comes up that requires the manager's help, (opening a locked box for a customer, a bypass code on the computer, recieving, angry customer, etc.) So in the course of that five years, only on a very very rare occasion of two managers being on duty at the same time did I ever get a break. My story is not uncommon. I worked at five different stores and they all had the same set up. No breaks for managers. What can be done A) for compensation or B) at the very least, get this problem fixed for the poor managers at Blockbuster?
