Is it legal to fire an employee who's performance is up to par because the company found a employee with more experience?

Illinois is normally an "at will" state meaning anyone (employer or employee) can terminate at any time for any reason, or NO reason. There are many restrictions on this, for example if there is a collective bargaining agreement, other work contract or vested expectation, other employees were given the chance to gain the experience instead of being terminated, etc. If you want to be sure, talk directly to an attorney who can help determine if there are any such restrictions.
