Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Making an assault complaintl

I an a RN in a psychiatric hospital for adolescents and children where violent assaults on staff are common. My employer has issued a policy that the police cannot be called to the hospital for staff to file assault charges and staff must go after their shift to file charges at the police station. No renumeration is offered by the hospital when going to file charges or for going to court to testify against the offender. Is this policy legal?

Hello. I do not believe that this policy is legal, if the hospital would fire you for filing assault charges by phone from the hospital. That is against public policy. You have a right to protect yourself. Will be happy to discuss this further and in more detail.
