Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Pregnant - to be laid off

I am a programmer-consultant and have worked for my consulting firm for about 2 1/2 years. I was recently laid off a full time position at one company and picked up some project work at another company. This project work is about done. The company will lay me off if they can not find me another position, which they most likely will not. I did recently apply for an internal position that I was fully qualified for but they hired in from the outside to fill the spot. I am pregnant and have five weeks until my due date. Can they lay me off this late in the game?

Re: Pregnant - to be laid off

In short, yes. Unless you can show some legitimate grounds of discrimination based on your pregnancy which it does not sound like, you are stuck.
