Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Proof of employment - noncompete issue

I am a computer network administrator contract

worker that was released from a contract with my

current employer (WorldCom) without notice by my

consulting company (RHI Consulting) - they did

this for fear of non-payment (they were payed up

to current week) and they had no work lined up for

me. I was not happy about them not having work

for me and I stated that I no longer want to work

for them. I have a lot of responsibility at

WorldCom and I did not want to leave them in a

lurch. I joined another consulting company and

after one day of unemployment I started to work

again as a contract worker for WorldCom. WorldCom

requires a release statement from RHI in order for

them to pay the new consulting company. RHI will

not provide a statement saying that I was an

employee for 4 years and that after they

terminated the contract I was on for

fear of client non-payment and that we parted ways

due to their ending of the contract relationship.

Aren't they required to give me proof of

employment? Their contract states that non-compete

clause is null and void if they end the client

relationship.

Re: Proof of employment - noncompete issue

Unfortunately, it is impossible to render any advice on contract interpretation without actually seeing the contract and other documents at issue. I fear that is why no other attorneys have yet to respond to your question.
