Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
I recently received a new job offer; as a result, I submitted an official letter of resignation to my employer. Oddly enough, I sustained a work related injury, which required surgery, shortly thereafter. I will be immobile for 6-8 weeks and am hoping that my new employer will not rescend the offer of employment. If this does occur, am I legally able to remain employed indefinitely with my current employer or does my letter of resignation still apply?

You resigned. Your subsequent injury is irrelevant. Whether you are entitled to continued medical coverage through your former employer's program is is different issue. Unless you have a written contract with your new employer or have some other form of legal protection (union, etc.), Illinois is an "at will" State and your new employer is under no legal obligation to hire or retain you. And as you said you resigned it would be up to your former employer to allow you to "undo" the resignation.
