Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
I am scared
I need answers. I just had my first child in June of 2007. After I took my maternity leave (which I wasn't paid b/c I was hourly), I was offered a promotion to assistant manager. My fiance quit his job so I could take the job b/c it was better pay. I have been an assistant now for 6 months, and now I am being threatened with my job as of last week. The head manager takes off an average of three days a week, and works maybe 6hrs a day. I work 12 hr days, six days a week, and I also have a kid. They told me that it's because I am not networking enough! How can I when I am working 12hrs, 6 days, cleaning up the head managers mistakes. I was also given the option to take a demotion to spend more time with my kid (can they do that?). The district manager and the head manager are close friends and obviously if someone has to go, it would be me! I am scared because I do so much for the place and the head manager gets all the credit and none of the blame when things go bad? Will I have a case if I get fired, or how can I ensure my job security?

Re: I am scared
Hello. You are in quite a predicament and I suggests that you keep a memo of each day's events. It is possible that your supervisor is attempting to get you to quit for budget reasons and is looking to make your job miserable. I recommend writing your manager a letter and advising him of your time restraints due to the fact that you have 12 hour days for 6 days of the week. This is a very serious matter and I believe that you are justified in your concerns about your job security. I am sure that your employer will try to get out of paying unemployment compensation benefits, so the employer
is likely to be looking for a reason to terminate your employment for cause. Will be happy to discuss this topic further and in more detail.
