Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
I am in the State of Illinois. I am on a contract position through a recruiting firm. I am considered an employee of the recruiting firm. The company where I was placed has asked me to sign an additional contract with them 4 months into the project. (I already signed an employment contract with the recruiting firm.
1)Do I have to sign this?
2)Does this clause preclude me from receiving unemployment benefits?
I understand that the assignment is a temporary one, the length of which may be increased or
decreased.
3)The new contract also says that my employment is contingent on background checks, drug screening, agreeing to a new set of policies and procedures. Can they do that?

Without seeing both contracts, it's really impossible to give you any real help. As only one example, if you are in fact an employee of the recruitment firm, then you may be a "borrowed servant" of the company to which you have been assigned, and your recruitment contract may obligate you to observe and comply with rules and regs. of employees of the company to which you have been assigned. It would help also to know which company -- recruitment or assignee -- is paying your wages.
