Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

here is the whole story. when the deli first started we were to put the tips that the customers left in a cup then at the end of the night the tips were put into the regular store deposit. not in a special account to be used for employee (ie parties and other stuff) but none of that ever came to the employees. they used it for contributions to the republician party fund. then all of a sudden they let us keep all the tips now they want us to go back to putting the tips in a bucket to be used for employee contest ans stuff. the did not specify what types of contests.
