Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

I am a supervisor over three guys where I work. Two of my guys and I were loading a trailer with pallets and my manager walks past then steps back and asks me in front of my guys " have you ever been arrested" . I have been working there 3 years! I paused then said I plead the fifth he right away said he would find out, then proceeded to tell me a story of a guy who used to work here who was a criminal Can he ask that? Can he find out? Should I worry that I didn't give him a yes/ no answer?

Jerks are jerks, wherever you find them. The real question is whether this is a pattern of unwarranted harrassment you are getting from the manager. Assuming your answer would have been "no" but you instead attempted mild humor to avoid what could hvae been an inappropriate and/or embarrassing situation, he may not get it. Wait for the next shoe to drop. At this point you should only worry if you lied on your job application.
