Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
Violation of food labeling
I was recently employed at a restaurant in which the disgusting practice of ''marrying'' ketchup bottles is required. Topping off half-full bottles with fresh ketchup could theoretically result in ketchup from 1984 remaining in circulation, posing a significant health hazard. Furthermore, all bottles of ketchup (Heinz brand, at least) are clearly labeled Do Not Refill. Is this practice against the law, and if so, what are my rights as a low-level employee to refuse to do it?

You may have rights under the Illinois whistleblower laws. However do not consider this legal advise. Please contact a lawyer and discuss.
