Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Can I be "let go" after only one week?

On the job one week and was told that I was not "catching on" as quickly as they liked. Originally was told that there was a lot to learn and that there would be intense training. I feel there is something else behind it. I think they found a young (very) woman they liked and decided they wanted her there instead. Is this fair or legal and do I have any recourse? Thanks for your prompot reply to this very unsettling situation.

Maybe its discrimination

Unless the action was preciptated by some illegal motivation--you as an "at will" employee may be terminated any reason whatsoever -- or no reason. The question, therefore, is whether the motivation was illegal. Looks like age discrim "might" apply. It is only illegal to discriminate agaisnt somebody over 40. If you are, and can prove (raise some good evidence) that the age of the person who replaced you, or your age was the motivating factor -- then you may have soemthing.
