Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

I work for an hourly wage and was required to start attending weekly meetings in September 2012 at my place of work. I included this hour meeting on my time sheet each week. Now in January 2013, my employer wants me to pay that money back since I should not have been paid for it. I was never told this, and it's been 5 months. Is it legal for them to ask me for this money back?

Do you want to fight this, and if so while you are employed or after they fire you "just because". It sounds like you're right but where are you going with this? If you can't afford to lose the income, this may just be the tyranny of democracy at work.
