Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
I was working with Macys in Illinois as a fulltime shoe sales associate.
2 weeks ago, I found a gift card on the shoe department floor. I took it , went home , checked the balance on it and after 2 weeks ( yesterday) I used the gift card in the store to purchase 2 cosmetics. I also had to put some charge on my Macys credit card.
I was called by the "loss prevention" manager 2 hours after the trasnaction and she told me that they had traced the lost gift card to my account and that it was deemed as theft.
I was also asked to repay Macys for 25 $ ( which I put on my AMEX right away),I was fired therafter and told not to return thereafter to work.
My question is- Could they just assume I had stolen the gift card and therefore had the right to fire me or can I fight it back ?
I look forward to your advice.

You may have a claim for wrongful termination.
What where the reasons that you were given for your termination?
Is there anything in your employee handbook relating to this situation, finding property and returning it to lost and found, etc.
