Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Workplace Intimidation/Retaliation

Several days ago, I was called into my job's conference room. I didn't know why or who was going to be present in the room. I walked in to discover that there were two managers, both male, waiting to speak to me. I really didn't think anything of it; I'm going through several personal crises and my mind hasn't been ''all there'' so to speak.

For the next hour & a half, I endured both men barraging me with a lecture about ''company values'' petaining to an email that I had sent about one of the managers. I also had to put up with the other manager brow-beating me with feedback from several employees, issues with which I thought I had resolved with my direct supervisor, but she had not communicated the resolutions to my manager.

I suspect that this ''beat-up'' session was revenge for something I did.

Every 6 months, employees are asked to participate in an employee satisfaction survery that takes about 10 minutes to complete. This year, I gave the lowest score that I ever have. Results can be viewed by even job title. I am the only one in my department with my job title, though 3 people should have it. It's easy to find out who gave the lowest score. I contacted my HR dept., but, they took the side of the managers. What can I do?

Re: Workplace Intimidation/Retaliation

Illinois is an "at will" state, like many states in the US, meaning that employers may terminate an employee without needing a reason. Unless you feel that you are being treated discrimately (e.g., gender, race, religion, etc ...) you have no real recourse (unless you belong to a union then you should contact your rep).
