Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Well, first, at least they're being up front about it. There's no state law that caps security deposits or move-in fees in Illinois. But by your zip code you are in or near Harvey, IL, and they may have a local landlord-tenant code that could provide some guidance. But not many communities have these so don't be surprised. The 2 months' security is a little unusual but the real winner is the $525.00 NON-refundable move-in deposit. Even some of the nicer condos I know of have maybe $200 or so non-refundable (plus maybe another $100 refundable key deposit for the elevator...). The place better be pretty special. Then again if you've just started apartment hunting, check around. This may be typical in the area for any number of reasons. Good luck!!!
