Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
Attempting an eviction
My mom is attemptimg evict her tenants for non-payment of rent. Both have received the necessary paperwork. One has been to Court several times. She is now requesting a trial by jury. What does my mom need to do in order to be prepared and put an end to this process? It has been three months since she's paid any rent.

Re: Attempting an eviction
Hello. It is not a good idea for a landlord to
represent themselves. Your mother should hire
an attorney. Even a licensed attorney should
not represent themselves in my opinion. A trial,
bench or jury, is a big event. Experience plays
a big part in the outcome. Direct and cross
examination of witnesses with proper objections and a knowledge of the rules of evidence can bring victory. Not knowing the rules can mean a bitter defeat which can cost your mom a great deal of money. I will be happy to answer any additional questions that you might have.
