Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
Breach of contract
I went through a real estate group to find an apartment recently. I found one, and signed a lease a month ago. I am supposed to be moving into the unit on 8/15/03, but found out on 8/11/03 that the landlord was mistaken about the date that the current tenant was moving out. The real estate group called and said that the apartment would not be available to me until the 8th of September. They've offered me $500 for the error to cover the cost of an additional move and storage costs, however, they have not offered to cover the cost living somewhere else for the 3 week lapse between my current lease and the new move-in date. What I want to know is if the landlord/reality group is liable to cover all of these expenses because it was their fault, and if so, how do I go about dealing with them?

Re: Breach of contract
It really depends on the contract but it is possible. Nothing is guaranteed though.
