Breaking a Lease
I have lived in my apartment for 2 years and recently renewed my lease (eff 11/1/03). Beginning about six weeks ago, cigarette smoke from a new tenant's apartment constantly enters my apartment. I have contacted the apartment manager who sent a letter to all tenants stating tips on how to prevent odors from entering neighbor's apartments. Although the manager tried, there is no end to this, which causes discomfort (due to allergies). Under these circumstances, is there any legal protection for me against facing the ''responsibility for monthly rent until the lease expires or the apartment is re-leased'' if I need to move?
