Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
Buying and want tenant to move....
I am buying a duplex that is currently rented....I want to move into one of the units that is occupied with a month to month lease.....can I give them a certain amount of time to move? They are old and retired and I hate to do it, but if I buy it I want to live there....what are my options?

Re: Buying and want tenant to move....
I would strongly suggest that you essentially make the purchase contingent on the Seller's having one of the units empty. You don't want to be buying a lawsuit. Whomever does it, they need to serve a 30-day notice to vacate. If tenant doesn't vacate then sue to evict.
