Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
The contents of a storage unit I rented in Illinois were sold without the company contacting me or publishing their intent to sell. I want to get them to get my property back, or if I can't get it back, I want to be paid for it. What should be my next step?

Read your storage contract, or have an attorney read it, and make sure there isn't a clause giving them the right or if so, what steps they were to take. The problem now is that you'd have to prove what everything was worth.... You may have an insurance claim if they didn't have a right to do this, against either their insurance company or perhaps your own homeowner's or renter's policy if you have one, but again proving the value of what was sold may be an issue and the 'auction' price may prevail.
