Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
My daughter has her boyfriend living with her in my basement. There is no lease or other contract. Can I ask him to leave by 1 August or is there a legal timeline I must follow?

You can ask him to leave today, but if he doesn't it really depends on how long he's been there. Most courts would probably say he's month-to-month and you will have to give proper notice and follow court procedures if you have to file suit. If your daughter is sick of him, she may be your best ally in getting him out. If she is going to stick up for him, you better get an attorney who knows exactly what to do to help you and be a buffer.
