Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
I am disabled and I rented an apartment on the 2nd floor because no ground floor were available. My disabilities have progressed therefore making it extremely painful and difficult to use the stairs. My physician has advised me that I need a home on the ground level as things will only get worse. Who I rent from don't have garden/ground levels. Can I be let out of my lease without penalties due to my disability?

If you didn't write that into your lease, and without further information that might change the answer, no your landlord is under no obligation to you. However if your landlord is unwilling to work with you, you may be able to sublet but someone has to look at your lease to see what it says about how you might be able to do this.
