Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

eviction notice

Hi,

I received an eviction notice on Nov 3, 2008 and then a second notice stated I had to pay the rent in full by the 14th in the form of a cashiers check or cash, money order I still have not paid it, the apartment complex is huge so I know it's a matter of time before I get served from sheriffs office my question is the knew when I moved in my source of income was unemployment they knew that would eventually end I know they have rules for other people they always have verified job info can I use this in court when I have to go they knew this would happen to me.

Re: eviction notice

Probably not. At the end of the day, you have to pay rent or you cannot stay. If you owe back rent and feel that you were somehow tricked into signing a contract then you may have some defense, but I do not see how you can argue that you should not have to pay something for your time in the apartment.

Good luck.
