Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Once eviction is ordered in court, does the sheriff come out right away to throw your belongings to the curb? Or do you get a notice on your door with a warning and a few days to get out? I am in McHenry County.

Depends on the order of possession - did you have a stay? If so, you had until the end of the stay to move. A stay is a time period after the order is entered to allow you time to move - can be anywhere from a few days to a month. If you did not move by the end of the stay, it depends on the local authorities and you should contact the Sheriff. Otherwise, no. The Sheriff will come out based on (1) the landlord placing the order of possession with the Sheriff for forcible eviction and (b) the Sheriff's schedule. You may have rights to stop the eviction but there is no information to say if you are too late.
