Who are you? Plaintiff (landlord)? No if you have an attorney to appear, otherwise if you don't the case can be dismissed against you. Are you the Defendant (tenant)? You should because a landlord can get a default judgment against you and then it can be an uphill battle to undo. If you are the landllord wondering if the tenant has to appear - no again because you can get a default judgment but the tenant may come in afterwards on a motion to vacate...... Bottom line, insufficient info to give you a decent idea but for the above.
