Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
Hello
We have a rented hownhouse in Aurora, Illinois. The HOA is asking for a copy of the lease. Is that legal or is against the privacy law?
Thank you

Generally legal, but if you're the landlord you must be the owner and you should read your townhome declaration, bylaws and house rules to see what the procedures and limitations are on renting your townhome, because they may or may not be entirely valid. And if you're the tenant you should tell your landlord to comply with whatever the HOA requirements are and if they are not entirely valid to hold you harmless; and you should read the townhome documents mentioned above that should have been given to you as your lease should, if properly written up, require you to comply with them as long as you're a tenant. Otherwise insufficient information.
